Together members of the INLAND Academy share excerpts from their forthcoming publication, catalyzing a conversation around collective digestion. The book is a harvest of reflections that renders tangible time spent together in the year-long Academy, long-distance partnerships, and shared hopes for ongoing collective creation. Rather than solely a record of experience or a concluding project, the collection is a seeding of process, learnings, and questions.
Drawing from the book’s multitude of forms and materials, this presentation will include readings and activations, thinking of collective digestion as an apparatus for embodying how the group interacts. The interactive workshop oscillates between formats, weaving together readings and embodied activities with the public as a means of sharing a collective digestion.
INLAND Academy consists of members from a constellation of contexts, delving deeply into collaborative practices and spending intimate periods of time together around themes of art, agroecology, and territory. The group is comprised of about twenty artists, writers, farmers, curators, designers, activists, herbalists, and researchers, meeting monthly at dynamic sites that center on land-based practices.
INLAND Academy is an independent postgraduate program sculpted by Inland that offers tools, theoretical bases, and expertise to define and develop projects that examine and reinvent power dynamics around rurality and conventional contemporary art, bringing together academic and vernacular knowledge through cultural and agroecological praxis. The Academy came together in January 2022 and continues to work together in various configurations.
The Inland Academy publication is possible thanks to the support of NA! Project.
