What can potatoes tell us about ourselves? What do they say about the construction of national identity? How can translocal histories and food cultures be linked to address colonial legacies? These are some of the questions that underlie Cooking Potato Stories, a project that collects intimate stories around the potato in order to develop an in-situ craft publication. Like a transatlantic recipe, it includes different ingredients such as heritage, history, imagination, tradition and autobiography.

Using the role of the potato as a guiding narrative, Ana Núñez Rodríguez questions the power structures that underlie the construction of identity. The publication will be presented and distributed free of charge at the Vevey market and at the La Tour-de-Peilz market, accompanied by an installation.

Ana Núñez Rodríguez is a research-based photographer living and working between Europe and Colombia. In her work she delves into the politics of identity, connecting her own experience of navigating between two cultural realities to other voices. Through the use of images she establishes new forms of collaboration and knowledge production that interrogate the impacts of collective memory and cultural heritage on identity as well as the colonial legacies and patterns that still condition ourselves.

Núñez Rodríguez studied Documentary Photography and Contemporary Creation at IDEP Barcelona, holds a postgraduate degree in Photography from the National University of Colombia and a Master degree in Photography and Society from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), in The Hague. In 2020-21, she was part of Lighthouse, a program for upcoming talents at Fotodok, Utrecht, and the year after, she was selected to join FuturesPhotography, a platform that promotes emerging photographers in Europe.
